I’m Santiago Guerrero. I live in Pereira, Colombia and I like to code
I am 21 years old and passionate about the world of software development. My journey into this field began with a small dream in 2019. At that time, I was uncertain about my future, but I knew deep down that my interests lay in logical problem-solving and technology. Initially, I studied industrial engineering, but after two semesters and lacking the resources to continue, I devoted my time to learning HTML, CSS, and JavaScript after discovering a YouTube course by chance. Since then, not a day went by without me rising and going to bed with code on my mind. In just six months, I landed my first freelance jobs. Although my early experiences were not great, I eventually found reliable clients, met many people, and secured my first formal job at a small company called VistaGeek. Unfortunately, I was taken advantage of there and did not receive payment for about four months of work.
Later, I met a friend who guided me to a small startup called Lifespikes, where I encountered another friend who became crucial in my career development. Together, the three of us worked tirelessly to build an ambitious e-commerce platform that aimed to manage everything from shipping logistics to direct sales. Sadly, due to business disagreements, the project could not continue, but we transitioned to various contracting projects, such as betting platforms, CRMs, and more. As things evolved, we continued working on Ocmi Workers Comp, an insurance company for PEOs, where one of my previously mentioned friends leads the engineering department. From starting as just three of us, our team grew to four, then ten, and now we are over 20 people, creating incredible software and contributing to OCMI's success.
Throughout these years, I have learned numerous technologies including Laravel, React, React Native, and Vue. I have worked on many projects, but the most valuable aspect has been the people I have met along the way, each lesson learned, and the continuous drive to keep learning and improving every day.
